Coping with Not Being Number One

Published October 30, 2026
It is official my time being a part of a group of persons who were in the running to be selected to do a podcast with Ryan Seacrest has ended. I did not win. In fact I ended up at number thirteen. I was able to make it through the top twenty cut and the top fifteen cut. I was in the race.
Did I Lose?
Absolutely, I lost the competition. I did not make it to the top ten. Yet I truly did win. I was in a competition with tons of others and I made it to through two rounds. I had the experience of being in a competition. Lastly, I was able to share both my knowledge and joy with others.
Perspective Changes Everything
How you look at things impacts how you navigate. In fact there was a study that the National Institute of Health titled, "A Psychological Exploration of the Power of Our Mindset and Its Influence on Physiological Health" which discovered that our mindset impacts our health. In fact how a person sees something not only impacts their health but it can also impact the decisions made. Imagine if I had the feeling of why even go for this contest? If that was my perspective I would have never entered the contest at all or made it through any of the rounds. Has there been any opportunity you had and did not take? If so why?
The Cognitive Triangle
The cognitive triangle states that your thoughts impact your feelings and your feelings impact your behaviors. What this means is that how you think impacts everything. The question becomes do you challenge or do you accept all your initial thoughts as truth? Your thoughts are the key to your feelings and your feelings your behaviors. Though most people strive for number one you can cope with not being number one if you chose to accept that even being in the number for certain things is a win as others do not even make it that far. As we close out the month I encourage everyone reading this article to explore your thoughts and the impact they will have on your day and life. Can you cope? If you think you can it can help in your ability to cope.
